The long awaited Youth Club at the Community Hut on Church Street, drew an eager crowd on Friday night. According to Ruth Younger herself, there were 46 youngsters who landed on the doorstep. it is great to see this facility back on track, giving local youngsters the opportunity for some socialising off the streets, but still in their own space away from parents. Aah, that slippery road to independence!
Photographs in Monday's News and Star showed plenty of smiling faces and the potential for a really healthy centre for the young adults of the area. Ruth, who is the 'Children and Young Person's Officer from St. Michael's church, just along the street, is being helped out by one of the former leaders from the club's previous incarnation. Hopefully this will give fresh impetus to the campaign to replace the aging huts in a single rebuild project next summer.
Maybe the youngsters themselves can come up with some innovative fund raising ideas over the next few months to ensure their new roost can survive and develop.
