Ben Phillips - The Vicar of Stanwix Hits the Headlines
Written by Ray Cassidy
Saturday, 20 June 2009

It's not often you see Stanwix in the national news or hear us getting mentioned on Radio 4, but Ben's created quite a ripple with his recent offer.  The BBC was headlining it on their website for a while with:

"A Cumbrian vicar is offering to help cash-strapped couples pay for a wedding in church."

Stanwix Run Fund Raising Progress
Written by Ray Cassidy
Saturday, 16 May 2009

Just chatting to Mike James today via email and he tells me that so far the event has brought in over £400 in entry fees and a healthy £1000 in sponsorship money.  That's a great start to the fundraising efforts folks so lets keep it rolling.  There is still quite a lot of money to be brought in so don't let it fade into a distant memory.  Go knock on those doors and let's try to give all the money in to school or to Mike as soon as possible.  Great effort people!

Back From the "Crossing" of Scotland Part 1
Written by Ray Cassidy
Tuesday, 07 April 2009

I thought I ought to put finger to keyboard to let my kind sponsors know how the Scottish paddling trip went.   I can't believe another month and a half has gone by without getting this written.

Well we had a good go!  Having set off a day late because of Rob's other commitments, we arrived at Ballinluig to drop a car off at what we hoped would be a staging post on the way to Perth.   From Ballinluig on the confluence of Tummel and Tay, we then had to drag all the gear in Rob's van, across to Bridge of Orchy for the night, to be in position for the next morning's logistical juggling.
