The 13th Carlisle Scout Group based at Trinity School is the natural scouting destination for children from the Stanwix community. As a pretty regular group parent helper, I like to do my bit and make sure that I'm not just dumping my kids off for a spot of entertainment at the hands of other willing folk. So what has this got to do with a "Sponsored Open Boat Expedition:
Rannoch Moor to Perth. Monday 20th April 2009 (Probable 5 days)"? ... you may very well ask! |

In scenes reminiscent of WW2, dozens of hapless, lost looking children were seen boarding transport for Eden Camp in the first mass evacuation ever seen in Stanwix. Worried expressions were etched on parent's faces as coaches disappeared onto Scotland Road at the start of the long journey south

Saturday saw 13th Carlisle (Trinity) scouts, who are mostly children from the Stanwix Community, heading north to do battle with acres of toothbrush bristles as the climax of their winter's ski training course. With a bevy of adult helpers, to keep them on the right track, the youngsters enkoyed a great day out at the Midlothian Ski centre, Hillend. As an added bonus there were no surprise coach crashes. On the downside, that did mean the children missed out on their bonus of an extra 2 hour's skiing, while they waited for a replacement coach -probably a fair trade though! |
